Old Town Kopitiam
Located on the Center Court top floor of 1-Utama Shopping Center, here is one modern old-style kopitiam that’s always full. During peak hours, some are willing to linger outside waiting for empty seating. Attracting mall patrons from all age groups, this full service kopitiam captures both the modern dining ambience whlist reminising the bygone era as seen from the wallpapers portraying kopitiam scenes. The menu is exclusively priced by the way (read: subjected to prevailing tax and service charges).
It’s signature drink is the Ipoh White coffee i.e the brew is somewhat light brown in color, as if creamer was added. (Pictured below is the Iced Ipoh White Coffee). Anyways, you get the normal kopitiam beverages and dishes. One of the menu-recommended items is the “Fiery Polo Iced Bun” – which is a sweetened (polo?) bun, half-cut and a slice of margerine in it.
How to savor it? You spread the margerine using the provided butter-knife, and then sprinke the provided honey syrup on top. Cut into bite size pieces like you eat pancake. I guess the name “fiery” comes from the effect of honey syrup flowing across the bun patterns similar to volcanic lava flowing down a mountain. How’s that for a metaphor. Just my guess.
And how does it taste? Heavenly…
