Best Teh-C-Peng “In The World”

February 13, 2006

For the uninitiated, Teh-C-Peng is your regular iced milk tea – whereby the milk can be subsituted by sweeteed condensed milk, or evaporated milk (read: Ideal Milk) with sugar.

In Kuching here, there was and is a trend to replace the sweetened milk and sugar with other ingredients, such as syrup (example: Gula Apong) or other concoctions. As these “new-generation” sweeteners are visible when you add to the tea, you can definitely see the layers of tea, evaporated milk and ”syrup” on the side of the glass. And thus the definitive 3-layer Teh-C-Peng is born!

There are several foodcourts and outlets in town that serve 3-layer Teh-C-Peng, but the one that wins our “Best in the world” title is the one at Fresh Food Court, 7th Mile Bazaar a.k.a Kota Sentosa. You’d better believe it. We don’t simply give any reviewed food item this award. And it’s just for RM1.20 some more..

If you don’t believe it, the patrons of this foodcourt can testify… you can see almost every table, everyone orders it. Almost. And some have them take-away, too.  This particular Teh-C-Peng is reputed to be the pioneer of creating unstirred 3-layer Teh-C-Peng. While other outlets attempted as well, it still tastes different. So far, we have found none that can match this one. Unique! We attribute it to the syrup ingredient – a secret concoction which no one knows… (and its definitely not gula apong). Give it a try and judge for yourselves!
