Big Potato Kopitiam
February 10, 2006
We were hungry after watching a movie at the cinema and was scouting the Padungan area for supper, in search of somewhere new to try. Did passed some potential along the way, but seems the food stalls were closed or starting to.
Located somewhere behind HSBC, this place caught our attention. It aint usual to see your regular chinese coffeeshop (or food court) in catchy names, and sorta striking color combination. Not forgetting the cartoon of a chef holding a plate of… i would guess, potato. Usually coffeeshops use chinese names what.
There are stalls, but we could see only 3 are still open by the time we reach there at 11pm. There was a CharKuey, KoloMee and FriedMee stall. I sure didn’t see any potato-related-dish stall. Whatever..
Here’s a plate of char kuey we ordered. For RM2, you get to choose either in sweet, salty and spicy versions. I opt for the salty one here. Nothing much to comment on the taste, just like good old burnt-smell fried bread with salt
That is what char kuey is, it is a form of bread deep fried in hot oil added with eggs and shallots and stired to pieces. Do correct me if the ingredients are incorrect. It is traditionally a Chinese breakfast dish, but then again, it can be served anytime. Considered as a non-heavy appetizer? We consider the char kuey at Satok Market more delicious. Will report on that in the future, we hope.
p.s – Also ordered a plate of kolo-mee. RM2 as well. Decent too, too bad I accidentally purged the pic from me cam. Not easy to get a decent kolo-mee still at RM2 you know.
